from the chair: color correction

The power of a good hair day. We’ve all experienced it. The instant confidence, the added bounce in your step, the way you smile when you just happen to catch your reflection. A great hair day can give you that special sauce to take on a day full of meetings, tackle a difficult conversation, or power through a jam-packed weekend. And sometimes, a good hair has your back when you don’t have much else to give to a day, am I right?

But sometimes, the beauty scales tip in the other direction. There are mornings when you can’t seem to get your hair to look right, no matter how many of your “tricks” you try. Moments that leave you frustrated after spending 45 minutes fussing with your hair, only to throw it into a ponytail and call it a day.

Sometimes, it’s seeing yourself in photos from special occasions or everyday moments and realizing your good hair days have turned into one perpetual cycle of bad hair days.

That’s what brought me to Lauren in 2018. I needed a total reset. From cut to color, it was fairy-godmother time, and I was unequivocally ready for it.

The Extensions + The Color

“I don’t normally suggest this, but would you be open to tape-ins?”

I remember looking at Lauren in the mirror as she ran her hands through my hair, which at the time could only be described as a “weird front-mullet haircut.”

We had just gone over the plan of attack …

… for addressing my color, fixing an ombré of brown into orange-blonde coloring that reminded me of how hair looks after you strip it (if you know, you know).

Lauren explained that the color correction would take a few visits to get the result we wanted, especially if we were going to maintain the health and integrity of my hair. And we did. Slow and steady, every appointment getting me lighter and closer to the dimensional blonde of my dreams.

So I said “yes” the tape-ins …

… which eventually led to two rows of NBR extensions.

Since then, we have journeyed across all spectrums of color: blonde, purple, even pink. In an unexpected turn of events, I was able to grow my natural hair long enough that the extensions weren’t serving me anymore.

A Place Where You Can Be Yourself

All of this to say: finding a stylist you can trust, someone who will educate you and set clear expectations, is so important. Even more, finding a stylist who will help you rediscover your confidence is even better. When Lauren asked me to write about my experience, I didn’t hesitate.

LB Extensions is a salon that allows you to be every part of yourself. Whether it’s the messy self that shows up in sweats and chaos or the boss-babe self that walks in wearing power heels and coffee-fueled confidence, the way you feel when you leave your appointment is unmatched.

One of my favorite things about wearing extensions?

The freedom it gave my natural hair to grow long and strong, all while staying healthy.

Extensions became my secret shield, sparing my strands from the daily heat styling that can take a toll.

This photo was snapped just after a fresh color visit.

If you’re looking for more good hair days, that secret sauce that makes everything feel better, I can’t recommend Lauren and her team enough. Intentional and authentic, they’ll get you back on the path to better days. Trust me.
